| Monday wild card
I thought this was a good time to throw out some pointers for those who may have never done coverage of such happenings. These events are difficult for everyone, including the journalist. If you're human, it can be difficult to ask someone to share their personal stories with you about someone who they've lost. It's difficult to sit there and watch as a person breaks down while they try to tell you the story, without perhaps crying yourself, the whole time knowing you're basically an intruder who is being paid to get information from them. But covering deaths or similar tragedies (perhaps a severe injury, etc.) is important in order to pay tribute to people. Sure, you're doing a job, but you've already got one of the best jobs in the world; you write for a living, and you must share the story of this person with the public.

French Trader in Custody After $7 Billion in Losses
Investigators were expected to question Mr. Kerviel, 31, a low-level employee of the bank. Société Générale has asserted that he was the lone architect of an elaborate fraud that involved betting tens of billions of dollars of the bank's money on European stock index futures. The Paris prosecutor's office formally opened an investigation of Mr. Kerviel on Friday after the bank filed a complaint accusing him of computer fraud and of falsifying bank records. The bank, which has said it uncovered the scheme on Jan. 18, was ultimately forced to unwind Mr. Kerviel's trades early last week, leading to losses of 4.9 billion euros ($7.2 billion) and requiring Société Générale to seek 5.5 billion euros in fresh capital. French investigators on Saturday began poring over documents and computer files obtained from Mr.
Fred's Failure
I'm staying out of the great Politico vs. Fred Thompson debate. Many campaign events seem forced and awkward to me. Thompson's fire-station drop-by looked maybe more awkward than most. So? Is gladhanding ability all that crucial a presidential talent? More important, as Instapundit notes, Thompson's answer to local paper's farm policy question wasn't entirely "glittering generalities" (Politico's quote from an editor). Thompson eventually got around to saying: We're going to have to phase out the corporate welfare system we've got, however. There are extremely rich people living in skyscrapers in Manhattan that are receiving subsidy payments. I think that's wrong. I'd put a stop to that if it was within my power. That still continues in this latest Farm Bill and it's not right.
Lewis Hamilton plc - fans may get to buy a share in his success
The 22-year-old is apparently considering floating himself on the stockmarket, giving those same fans the chance to buy shares in his life – or at least his future earnings, which could be vast. The first black star in Formula One, his impact on the sport in his debut season has been compared to that of Tiger Woods in golf. A new set of deals look set to make Hamilton an unprecedented $1bn over the course of his career. And last night he revealed that fleeing the taxman is another reason for going to live abroad. His father, Anthony, and specialist advisers are considering a range of business moves. In one remarkable plan, a new company would be set up with the driver as both its major asset and shareholder – and sell off 10 per cent of its stock on the London stock exchange for about $100m.
