These are really, really tough times," O'Malley said. "We are seeing a national economic downturn, and we are also seeing a real unprecedented crisis when it comes to foreclosures."
The administration also announced yesterday the "Bridge to HOPE" program to provide interest-free loans of up to $15,000 so that homeowners can catch up on their mortgage payments and avoid foreclosure. Raymond A. Skinner, secretary of the Department of Housing and Community Development, said his agency has moved $400,000 from its existing budgets to be able to make the loans with state dollars.
The HOPE loan program, announced last summer by O'Malley, didn't meet expectations. It would have directed $100 million to assist hundreds of homeowners refinance, but only 14 homeowners have qualified.
Navigating the deluge of credit cards
In a country from which there are hundreds of credit cards to choose, picking one that best suits your financial needs and lifestyle is no easy task. There are cards that offer rewards, cards that tout low interest rates and cards that have no annual fees. Many of these credit card offers have been dropping into mailboxes recently. January is a busy month when it comes to applications sent out by credit card issuers. That's not surprising, given that many people who used their credit cards heavily in December for holiday shopping may be in the market for a new one. "We've heard that from card issuers, and we've seen that in our business," said Bill Hardekopf, chief executive officer of Lowcards.com, a Web site that helps consumers compare credit cards.
Peyton thinks Giants can contend every year

The only advice Peyton gave his brother was to stick to his daily routine. "This is obviously the biggest game that he has ever played in," Peyton said.
